I want to apologize for the fact that I have "dropped the ball" the last two weeks as far as my posting. I'm going to try really hard to keep up with it better throughout the rest of the semester.
I thought that even with the interuptions, yesterday was a success. I know that the yearbook will be so worth it. Five years ago, when we lived in another part of the state, our homeschool group made a yearbook and the kids still love to pull it out. It really helps to recall some great memories!!!
One of the kids favorite activities yesterday, was locating the states with chocolate chips! I told my hubby that the only problem with the chocolate chips was that I liked them too much! I don't really care for goldfish. Seriously though, I felt like the chocolate chips sat better on their maps and didn't take up as much room as the goldfish, so you can still see the located state. I think the goldfish might be really good for identifying oceans later on. So unless someone just has a really strong objection I might continue to use those. It would only be about four or five little morsels.
For skip counting we used a strip of paper which had the 13s listed. We used cotton balls, which represented bunnies to hop across the numbers as we counted. When they got to the end of the strip there was a chocolate morsel waiting for the bunny, AKA child, to eat. Then out came those tin whistles.
The tin whistles caused a little bit of a stir as there were a few missing. However, we spent most of the time just identifing the parts of the whistle, so in the end it wasn't a big deal. We also looked at some music and followed along with our ears and eyes as the notes went up or down. The biggest obstacle that will need to be worked on is getting those little fingers holding the instrument correctly. Really spend some time practicing that this week, but don't get too frustrated, they are pretty little. I'm really looking forward to working with the kids on these. I was a music major and I feel pretty comfortable teaching this particular fine art. :)
Science was, as always, a blast. I really give a lot of credit to the ladies that make our science time so enjoyable. We got to see real kidneys, and thanks to Mr. Fil Tration, we discovered how they work.
I'm still so excited about our class. I absolutely LOVE this age group and have grown to LOVE each one of these adorable children. I love it when they come and sit next to me outside of class or crawl into my lap during class! It is the sweetest thing! You moms are doing a great job raising awesome kids!!!
Have a great week!!!
Blessings,
Kyle
